The Inn Collection Group reopens The Pheasant Inn | Item

The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite reopened after a large-scale renovation by the inn’s owners, The Inn Collection Group.

Le Faisan was closed for six months during the renovation aimed at “bringing life” to the 17th century inn.

The redevelopment entailed the restoration of the hostel’s dining rooms and bar, as well as the transformation of its 20 rooms.

The inn‘s original listed bar, with its “red velvet banquettes, oak-paneled walls and eclectic collection of knickknacks” remains the same to preserve The Pheasant’s legacy.

As one of the oldest inns in the Lake District, the refurbishment ‘combined the hostel’s sensitivity to the historic origins with thoughtful improvements’.

The new Pheasant Inn also has 78 place settings inside a series of dining areas while the outdoor seating and terraces provide an additional 80 place settings throughout the hostel grounds.

A second phase of redevelopment is underway to reuse a chalet on the land to provide seven more bedrooms, including new family accommodation.

Chris Adamson, Managing Director, said: “One of our clients has been coming here every day for 40 years. He even crossed the A66 in a kayak when it was flooded for his drink. He was one of the first regulars to come back inside. He felt good because he was so happy with the way he looked.

“The Pheasant has evolved to meet the needs of travelers over the centuries. Now it is The Inn Collection Group’s turn to contribute to its development as a beacon of hospitality that it is known and appreciated to be in the Lakes.

He added: “It is understandable that there is some trepidation about the change of the place, but the way it has been renovated and refurbished with so much sympathy makes it seem like it has been like this. All the time.”

Debra Adamson, General Manager, said: “It’s nice to be open again to bring the whole team and all of our regulars back – they love the place. We are very happy to get back to business and see this amazing place as it should be – full of people enjoying their food, drink and enjoying the company and to see our happy team in our lovely new hostel.

“We are aiming for a magical Christmas and are going all out with wonderful festive celebrations to celebrate the new Pheasant Inn’s first Christmas with our customers and our team.”
