Best alternatives to payday loans to consider in times of crisis https://brakelhoen.net/best-alternatives-to-payday-loans-to-consider-in-times-of-crisis/ Mon, 14 Nov 2022 23:03:45 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/best-alternatives-to-payday-loans-to-consider-in-times-of-crisis/

Getting quick access to cash can be difficult at the best of times. It can be even more difficult when times are tough.

If you’re short on cash, a payday loan might seem like the only option, but there’s rarely a good reason to get one.

Even if it’s just a small amount of money to cover an emergency, a payday loan could leave you worse off than before you borrowed.

Here are 10 alternatives to consider when you need cash fast.

Local charities and nonprofits

Best for: Free help to cover essential expenses.

Local funding sources, like community centers and nonprofits, are especially helpful if you’re balancing grocery, gas, and other expenses with a new emergency. Some of these organizations may be a resource for donations of food, clothing, or bus tickets for medical appointments or job interviews.

The rapidity: How quickly you can get help depends on your needs and the organizations in your area. Call them to find out.

Keep in mind: Charities may require proof that you need help, such as recent pay stubs.

Best for: Reduce a large medical bill or make it more manageable to repay.

  • Payment plans: Ask your doctor’s office if you can set up a payment plan that splits a large bill into smaller monthly payments.

  • Medical bill advocates: Medical bill advocates negotiate bills after an expensive procedure or hospital stay. They can also spot costly mistakes and challenge them.

  • Medical credit card: some medical credit cards offered by doctors’ offices have interest-free promotional periods that can help you cover expenses. Read the terms carefully to avoid high interest charges.

The rapidity: Each option varies in speed, but you may be able to work out a payment plan with the doctor’s office over the phone.

Keep in mind: Each option can be paid. Calculate the amount you will save and compare it to the amount you will pay to make a positive decision.

Best for: Getting money with a credit score below 690.

Some online lenders tailor their loans to borrowers with bad credit. These lenders can approve applicants debt to income ratios and bad or fair credit scores.

If you are unsure whether you qualify for a loan for bad credit, you can pre-qualify to see what lenders will offer you. It does not affect your credit score and pre-qualifying with multiple lenders allows you to compare loan offers.

The rapidity: Many online lenders offer quick funding and can deposit the money into your bank account within a day or two of approval.

Keep in mind: Online lenders report payments to three major credits offices. On-time payments can help you build credit, while missed payments will hurt your score.

See if you’re pre-qualified for a personal loan – without affecting your credit score

Just answer a few questions to get personalized rate quotes from multiple lenders.

Best for: Members in good standing of a credit union.

If you are already a member of a credit union or eligible to become one, you already have an option available to you.

credit unions consider your credit score and income when applying for a loan, but they also look at your membership history.

If your caisse offers alternative payday loansyou can borrow a small amount — usually up to $1,000 or $2,000 — with a maximum interest rate of 28% and repayment terms of up to 12 months.

The rapidity: Larger credit unions may be able to fund and approve a loan within days. If you are a member of a local credit union or need to become one to apply, the process may take longer.

Keep in mind: Credit unions report late and on-time payments to the credit bureaus, which will affect your credit score.

Payment plans for monthly expenses

Best for: Temporary waiver of full or partial bill payments while you cover an emergency.

Ask for a payment extension or installment plan from your landlord, utility company, mortgage lender or other creditor to temporarily alleviate these expenses while you cover another more pressing expense.

Some creditors and utility companies have online forms where you can request an extension or hardship plan, but you may need to make an informal request to someone like a landlord.

The rapidity: Depending on when your bills are due, you may get payment relief before your next payment.

Keep in mind: It can be difficult to keep up with payment plans with multiple creditors or billing agencies. Add the payments to your budget or schedule and make sure you have enough money to pay them.

Best for: Create a temporary or permanent side hustle – or find extra cash where you haven’t looked before.

You can make extra money by selling your clothes, driving for a ride-sharing company, or turning a hobby into an online store.

Some of the options of our guide to making money more time consuming than others, but many of these jobs can be done alone or from home.

The rapidity: How quickly it will earn you money depends on how you choose to earn money. Selling things online can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, while rideshare drivers are usually paid weekly.

Keep in mind: The internet is full of scams to get quick cash. Avoid job postings that require you to pay money or ask for personal or financial information.

Best for: Get money with low or no interest, as long as you are willing to contribute funds to help someone else as well.

A lending circle consists of a group of people who lend money to each other at no or very little cost. This is a long-term commitment because Lending Circles typically raise money for one person each month, but participating can help you raise money for something like a car repair or help you through a hard time.

Some websites work with lending circles to report payments to credit bureaus, which can help improve your credit.

The rapidity: It depends on when the installment cycle comes to you, but this is a slower funding option.

Keep in mind: You must have a stable source of income in order to regularly contribute to the Lending Circle fund.

Best for: Getting interest-free money, if you’re close enough to someone to ask for it.

Asking someone you trust to help you pay a bill or pay you a month’s rent won’t hurt your credit score, but it can hurt your pride.

You and your lender can set terms that define when the loan will be repaid and whether you will repay it in installments or all at once.

The rapidity: It depends on the terms you and the lender agree to.

keep in mind: A loan from a family member or friend doesn’t require physical collateral, but you could put a relationship at risk, so make sure both parties are comfortable with the loan before borrowing.

Best for: When you are employed and need emergency money.

If you have a predictable income and need a payday advance, you may consider a cash advance app.

These apps typically confirm your earnings and when you get paid, and offer an advance between $20 and $500 on your next paycheck.

They generally charge a low fee, but most ask for a voluntary tip for service.

The rapidity: These apps can take a few days to deliver the money, but most will send your advance within hours for an additional fee.

Keep in mind: Payday advances are a temporary solution. If you pay regularly to access the money you’ve already earned, you may need to review your budget.

Best for: Get money without a credit check and without having to sell an item.

A pawnbroker is a no credit check option that is one step away from selling your stuff. To get one, you hand something you own to the staff of a pawn shop, and they assess its value and determine whether they’ll give you a loan in exchange for your item.

You and the pawnbroker agree when you will repay the loan – and any other interest or fees – in order to get your item back.

The rapidity: A pawnbroker will usually tell you on the spot if they will lend you money and how much.

These loans are also not a long-term solution. If you find yourself regularly taking out pawnbrokers, look for another solution.

Tilman Fertitta begins demolition of Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino project https://brakelhoen.net/tilman-fertitta-begins-demolition-of-las-vegas-strip-hotel-casino-project/ Wed, 09 Nov 2022 23:08:00 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/tilman-fertitta-begins-demolition-of-las-vegas-strip-hotel-casino-project/

Tilman Fertitta has demolished an old motel on the Strip, as the Houston billionaire forges ahead with plans for an upscale resort.

Work crews recently demolished a former Travelodge on Las Vegas Boulevard, just south of Harmon Avenue, leaving piles of concrete, wood and other debris on the site as of Tuesday. Its condemned lobby, in a separate building from the motel rooms, was still standing.

Nearby, a cluster of storefronts that Fertitta also purchased had been partially demolished. The Vegas Ink tattoo parlor had been demolished, while the back of adjacent stores had been demolished, leaving passers-by to see mounds of demolished real estate through their still-standing storefronts.

The Clark County Commission last month approved Fertitta’s plans for a 43-story, 2,420-room hotel and casino in Las Vegas’ famed resort corridor. On the same day, the county issued three demolition permits to allow work crews to demolish buildings on its 6-acre lot.

The spread, which Fertitta bought in June for $270 million, included the Travelodge, the Tex Mex Tequila Bar & Grill building and a cluster of now-shuttered gift shops and other retail spaces.

The motel, built in 1963, closed in July. At the time, a sign on the hall door said, “We had a good run. Over 59 years of service. This Travelodge is permanently closed.

A representative for Fertitta’s eponymous company, Fertitta Entertainment, said Wednesday that there were “no updates we can share at this time” on the demolition plans for the remaining buildings.

Fertitta’s project includes restaurants, convention space, a spa, a wedding chapel, a car showroom and a theater with approximately 2,500 seats. It would also include suites and villas, VIP lounges and a bar and lounge for high-limit players, construction plans indicate.

Project representative Rebecca Miltenberger told the county commission last month that the development would be an “upscale casino.”

Miltenberger, an attorney for Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, also provided a timeline for the company.

“We are very excited to complete this project over the next two years,” she told the commission.

Fertitta, 65, oversees a business empire that spans dozens of restaurant brands, Golden Nugget casinos in Nevada and other states, the NBA’s Houston Rockets and the upscale Post Oak Hotel in Houston. .

He also owns a significant stake in Wynn Resorts Ltd. According to a recent securities filing, he acquired 6.9 million shares in the Las Vegas-based casino operator, a 6.1% stake, making him one of its top shareholders.

Fertitta’s project site is approximately 1.5 miles south of Wynn’s two luxury hotel towers on Las Vegas Boulevard, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore.

Last month, a Fertitta Entertainment spokesperson told the Review-Journal that there was no breakthrough date yet for the station.

Premier Inn will open on the site of Cork’s former Moore’s Hotel by summer https://brakelhoen.net/premier-inn-will-open-on-the-site-of-corks-former-moores-hotel-by-summer/ Wed, 09 Nov 2022 18:00:00 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/premier-inn-will-open-on-the-site-of-corks-former-moores-hotel-by-summer/ A new €30 million hotel being developed on the site of a former iconic hotel in Cork City is on track to welcome its first guests by next summer.

The news has been confirmed by developers of the new 187-bed Premier Inn on Morrison’s Quay as they mark the ‘completion’ of the building’s main construction phase on the site of the former Moore’s Hotel.

Brendan Heas, the former owner of Moore’s Hotel, who provided the development team with historic photos of the building, was among the guests at the “coronation” ceremony.

Moore’s Hotel went out of business in 2005. The building was then used for a time by Cork School of Music while its current city center building was under development, but then fell into disrepair .

It was officially declared derelict in 2018, was later sold and allowed to be redeveloped, with construction work on the Premier Inn project starting in September 2021.

Development and construction teams, who were also involved in the successful conservation and handover of Ireland’s first Premier Inn, on George’s Street in Dublin last November, say they have made great strides since to preserve the buildings of the Morrison’s Quay site.

The facade has been covered in scaffolding and the developers say they have now reached the culmination of the development, they look forward to revealing the buildings in the coming weeks as the focus shifts to extensive internal works.

When it opens next summer, the 187-bed hotel will have a restaurant and public bar, as well as three new freestanding office buildings.

Darragh Elliott, Managing Director of the Elliott Group, thanked the team on site for their work on the project.

“A strong team has been assembled in Cork under the leadership of Will Leahy, our regional manager in Munster. We are delighted to start new projects in the region in the coming weeks, which demonstrates our long-term commitment to Cork and the wider Munster region,” he said.

Matt Gent, Premier Inn’s head of development in Ireland, said the new hotel in Cork would soon become the most westerly Premier Inn in their network.

“Given the excellent city center location, the broad appeal of the Premier Inn brand and the high occupancy rate we are experiencing across our network, I am sure the new Cork Premier Inn will be an extremely popular choice for our guests when the hotel opened,” he said.

The Star Inn, Oxfordshire, Hotel Review: ‘A country bolthole with cuisine worthy of a Michelin star’ | Travel https://brakelhoen.net/the-star-inn-oxfordshire-hotel-review-a-country-bolthole-with-cuisine-worthy-of-a-michelin-star-travel/ Mon, 07 Nov 2022 09:21:25 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/the-star-inn-oxfordshire-hotel-review-a-country-bolthole-with-cuisine-worthy-of-a-michelin-star-travel/

What is the story?

Alastair Storey – twice voted the most influential person in hospitality by industry bible The Caterer – already owns the Michelin-starred Woodspeen restaurant and cooking school in Newbury, Newbury, Berkshire. Now he and his team are branching out into bedrooms, having been won over by the easygoing charm of this cute cliche pub bordered by a stream in the Oxfordshire village of Sparsholt. After a major refurbishment, the pub reopened in June.

What do we like?

The friendly atmosphere. Storey’s signature combination of glamorous interiors, fabulous food and friendly service makes it an inviting country bolthole. The new look gives the Star’s 18th century flint and brick heritage a layering of Scandi-chic elegance, enhancing the ambience of relaxed luxury. The paint has been painstakingly removed from the chunky beams to reveal the honeyed grain of the oak and a sexy under-lit fluted bar and minimalist wood burner have been added for a cosmopolitan feel. Soft dove gray couches, banquettes, and abstract art complete the picture.

One of the pub’s eight rooms

Sam Brennan, whose Michelin-starred CV includes stints at Pétrus and L’Ortolan, has worked with Woodspeen executive chef Peter Eaton, ex-Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, to create set menus that are a bargain at 29 £ for three courses. and keep the restaurant busy mid-week. On the menu, I choose the roasted butternut squash with goat curd, pickled walnuts, herb pesto and pumpkin seeds (£11) and the hash browns, porcini mushroom purée, porcini mushroom ragout with fresh cream ( £20). Both dishes have delicacy and depth and bartender Henry’s original suggestion to accompany a glass of Turkish Sauvignon Blanc (£9) is a fruity revelation that works surprisingly well.

FOOD HISTORY

The eight bedrooms in a detached barn across the garden don’t match up so well. Painted in lovely pastels, they’re still in progress, needing layering with additional furniture, artwork, and better bathrooms to match the flair of the main bar. Their redesign should be completed next year. However, the rates are realistically priced to reflect their current state (they may well increase next March) and the buttery nastiness of my smoked salmon and sourdough avocado breakfast reminds me of the main reason to visit: the food.

What’s nearby?

Luckily for your belt, Sparsholt is surrounded by Oxfordshire walking country, with miles of unspoiled footpaths along the old Ridgeway Road, providing all the incentive you need for some pre-dinner exercise. . The most photogenic yomps are found around the Uffington White Horse, an enigmatic illustration carved in chalk over 3,000 years ago, and the nearby Iron Age hillside of Uffington Castle. Oxford’s museums and galleries are a 40-minute drive away.

Susan d’Arcy was a guest at the Star Inn. B&B doubles from £95, mains from £20 (thestarsparsholt.co.uk). Suitable for children; accessible

Greenwich’s Homestead Inn is aiming for an even more upscale clientele https://brakelhoen.net/greenwichs-homestead-inn-is-aiming-for-an-even-more-upscale-clientele/ Fri, 04 Nov 2022 21:50:55 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/greenwichs-homestead-inn-is-aiming-for-an-even-more-upscale-clientele/ GREENWICH — A boutique hotel in the Belle Haven neighborhood is set for a facelift, targeting a very upscale clientele.

For 20 years, co-owners Thomas Henkelmann and Theresa Carroll operated a “luxury boutique hotel” and restaurant on the lower Field Point Road, the Homestead Inn.

They closed the business on December 31 last year, and the historic ownership and operation was sold to a new management group for $7.5 million last fall, according to city property records.

The property’s old structures at 420 Field Point are being renovated, and a new application has been submitted to the planning department that would continue the use of the inn and restaurant as an upscale luxury destination.

The proposal would turn rooms at the Homestead Inn into suites. The number of bedrooms would be increased from 19 to 14. The site’s former barn would also be converted into accommodation space, with three guest suites installed, according to the proposal.

A proposed new hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip could fill the void in the resort hallway https://brakelhoen.net/a-proposed-new-hotel-casino-on-the-las-vegas-strip-could-fill-the-void-in-the-resort-hallway/ Thu, 03 Nov 2022 04:21:00 +0000 https://brakelhoen.net/a-proposed-new-hotel-casino-on-the-las-vegas-strip-could-fill-the-void-in-the-resort-hallway/

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A proposed hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip has been given the go-ahead by Clark County officials, although there is no timeline for the start of the construction.

The Clark County Zoning Commission has approved a proposal from Tilman Fertitta and Fertitta Entertainment, which owns and represents Golden Nugget casinos, the Houston Rockets and dozens of restaurant chains across the country. Prime real estate at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue currently includes an enclosed mall, a former Travelodge, and a working Mexican restaurant.

The proposal highlights 43 floors, 2,420 hotel rooms, a 2,500 seat theater, a 37,000 square foot gym and spa, a wedding chapel, 97,000 square feet of convention facilities and an underground garage.

“We were pleased with the unanimous approval from the Clark County Commission…However, this is just another step in our overall review and planning process. No firm decisions have yet been made regarding our future plans,” Fertitta Entertainment Executive Vice President of Development Jeff Cantwell said in a statement to FOX5.

Dr. Amanda Belarmino, assistant professor at UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, explains why there might be a market for another property in the area– which has become a hotbed for sports and entertainment, surrounded by Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena and Michelob Ultra Arena.

“It would actually make a lot of sense to put another property there if the Tropicana were to go out of the market,” Belarmino said, responding to rumors that a possible Oakland A stadium could be built on the iconic Vintage Vegas property.

“We know there’s a lot of potential as we move forward with the Raiders and the Golden Knights and then of course the Super Bowl,” she said.

Fans of Golden Nugget properties in Downtown Las Vegas, Laughlin and across the country could provide a ready base of travelers looking for a stay on the Las Vegas Strip. “Fertitta’s properties are very well established in other parts of the United States. So consumers who have the loyalty points who want to come to Las Vegas — that would be an attraction for them,” Belarmino said.

Company representatives could not provide a timeline for demolition or construction. A lawyer for the property has promised that any construction will not interfere with Formula 1 plans or Resort Corridor roadworks.
