County Durham pub named AA Inn of the Year, a first for the North East

A ‘characterful’ County Durham pub has been named ‘Inn of the Year’ by a leading hotel awards organization.

The AA presented the distinction to The Impeccable Pig in Sedgefield, a pub and restaurant that boasts luxury accommodation.

Known for its eclectic decor and rooms with hot tubs and outdoor sauna, the Sedgefield Hotel celebrated its third anniversary on September 26.

And the next day, its owners had another reason to celebrate, as they won the title of AA Inn of the Year 2021 at this year’s AA Bed and Breakfast Awards.

This is the first time that a place in the North East has received this distinction and Pierre Bertolotti, Managing Director of The Impeccable Pig, said he was “delighted” to have received this prestigious award.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be named AA Inn of the Year 2021, especially at a time that has been such a challenge for everyone in the industry.

“Everyone on the site takes pride in going above and beyond to provide the best customer experience possible, so it’s great to see our efforts validated by such a respected organization.”

Simon Numphud, General Manager of AA Hotel and Hospitality Services, said: “Congratulations to Impeccable Pig for winning the AA Inn of the Year award.

“This hostel is full of character and has plenty to do, including subtly themed rooms, all of which have freestanding copper and nickel tubs.

“AA Rosette quality food features pub classics that allow the kitchen team to showcase their skills and the hospitality offered through the inn excels in every way.”

The Impeccable Pig’s 10 themed rooms include Globe Trotter, Pigsty, Three Little Pigs and Babe and will soon be joined by two new main suites – Squealers and Hefner – which will be available for booking from the end of October.

Located behind the restaurant in the old brick shed, the ground-floor rooms have access to their own private patio with whirlpool tubs, while those on the first floor have seven-foot-wide beds and freestanding copper tubs.
